Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, ponders another clash with the Romans in the county competition.
On the crest of a wave following Saturday’s convincing victory over Swindon Supermarine, Frome Town travel to Twerton Park on Tuesday evening for what has now become the annual Somerset Premier Cup clash with Bath City.
This is the fourth season running The Robins and The Romans have been paired together in the county competition and, if you add in pre-season games and an FA Cup tie, Tuesday will be the EIGHTH meeting between the two in little over THREE years.
The managerial head-to-head stands at Jerry Gill seven, Danny Greaves nil, but with the Gill era now over, perhaps the time is nigh to redress that imbalance a little.
Play-off quarter-finalists last term, Bath have struggled somewhat in National League South this season and, since ousting Larkhall on penalties (after a 2-2 draw) in the previous round in mid-October, they have won just one of their subsequent dozen fixtures, finding themselves hovering just above the relegation zone. One of those twelve was a 3-2 home reverse against Southern League Chertsey in the FA Trophy.
The Scarlet Runners had a more comfortable passage to this Second Round stage, overcoming Brislington 4-1 at Ironmould Lane, and an intriguing last-eight tie awaits the winners away at Western League newcomers Mendip Broadwalk.
Full Quarter-Final Draw
Mendip Broadwalk v Bath City or Frome Town
Yeovil or Weston-super-Mare v Taunton
Street v Clevedon
Paulton Rovers v Nailsea & Tickenham
July’s pre-season encounter at Badgers Hill went the way of the visitors by 5-0, but the whole evening was overshadowed by a season ending injury to Reece Rusher and two others battling back to full fitness, namely Warren Maidment and Sam Heal, may well get some welcome playing time in Tuesday’s Twerton tussle.
Although between permanent managers at the moment and not on the best run of form, Bath will doubtlessly provide formidable opposition, but the Robins will be buoyed by impressive back-to-back victories in December as they bid to make it eighth time lucky.
The latest information on ticketing according to the Romans' website is as follows:
Adult - £9.00
Senior (65+)- £7.00
Student/Under-18 - £4.00
Child Under-16 - £2.00

Walking out of the ground on Saturday I could sense that the 'feel good factor' had returned to The Hill. All around were smiles and the buzz of happiness as they all flocked out of the ground back to their beloveds!!!
With no game on Saturday Greavsie is sure to put out a decent side and Bath City are vulnerable and in the middle of an awful run with confidence low. this game could be closer than many in the recent past.
There are a lot of squad players who qualify for minutes but none more so than Curtis Hutson who has done little wrong but has been starved of minutes and given meagre 5 minute cameos at best f…
