Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, opens up his account for the first clash of 24-25, a pre-season friendly visit to the heart of Wiltshire.
It's been barely a couple of months since that seismic afternoon at Badgers Hill when it seemed half the town turned out to roar the Robins to an unforgettable play-off final victory, and preparation for the prize that promotion brought continues on Saturday with their first pre-season friendly.
They travel to Nursteed Road, home of Step Six outfit Devizes Town, where fans will be able to get a glimpse of new signings Albie Hopkins, Jayden Nielsen and Marcus Day along with the more familiar faces who performed so consistently last season.
Frome have not played Devizes competitively since their Western League promotion campaign of 2008-09 when they did the double, winning 2-1 at The Hill on the opening day then 4-1 away during the run-in.
Following over half a century of continuous Western League membership, the Wiltshire side have gone through something of an upheaval in recent times. Relegated to county football in 2022, they bounced back straight away to Hellenic League Division One where they finished fifth last term and, completing the circle, find themselves back in Division One of the Western League after a sideways move.
With a fortnight of pre-season training under their belts, this first friendly will be another step up in preparation for the big Southern League Premier Division kick-off on 10th August with the only certainty being someone will use the phrase 'useful workout' in a match report.
Supporters should note that kick-off is at the earlier time of 1pm to accommodate another match taking place in Germany. Frühstück Fussball, as they say in Düsseldorf!

Quite a few still missing yesterday ( Teale, Davies, Rigg, Rusher, Phillips, & Staley.) but a good 1-0 win all the same. We still haven't replaced Kane or Meaksie as yet but I'm sure the boss is on to it as decent strikers are a must in any side hoping to do well.
I think Devizes were once in the Wilts league that our reserves used to play in? That's going back a long way mind you.!
Does anyone know why the new changing rooms haven't been started and are clearly not going to be now that the new season is all but on us. The plan was for it all to be done by the start of this se…
