Frome Town put in a lacklustre performance, falling to a devastating defeat at the hands of Dorchester Town, in an action filled game.
Two early goals from Olaf Konzsela and Shaquielle Gwengwe set the tone for the game, with substitutes Matthew Buse and Wayne Robinson putting the icing on the cake for the hosts with two second half goals of their own.
It certainly wasn’t a performance to be desired, the first half in particular, with two red cards from Alex Monks and Sam Heal certainly not helping the case, though the damage was already done prior to these incidents.
Contrary to last season, the Robins started slow, it’s been a bit of a common theme as of recent, with the Magpies finding it extremely easy to carve through Frome’s core, ultimately leading to the opening goal.
The hosts appeared to have acres of space down the right hand side, which gave them the opportunity to pull back for Konzsela who simply had too much time to pick his spot and with ease fired past Kyle Phillips.
Things then got worse for the visitors, a free-kick given against them caught the defence napping, with the taker playing short to Gwengwe who seemed to have all the time in the world to compose himself and fire in to the top corner, giving the BA11 side a mountain to climb after just ten minutes of action.
The first real chance for the away side came in the 29th minute, through Albie Hopkins, who rightly had a go from range, forcing Crisp in to a routine save, before the keeper attempted to restart play quickly but ended up throwing it straight out of play.
It appeared we were finally starting to settle down, until chaos unfolded as both Monks and Jordan Ngalo were dismissed for an incident after a strong tackle from the midfielder.
However the red cards weirdly helped worked in our favour, it threw a spanner in the works for the remainder of the half and we nearly pulled one back right before the break through Sam Teale, who connected with a header from a corner but saw his effort clip the top of the crossbar.
There certainly would have been some stern words said at half time from Danny Greaves, bad performances can happen but the one thing the boss would have wanted is minimum 100% effort from everyone in the second half.
We did start the second half a lot more lively, more than anything we saw in the first, the levels of work rate and desire were a lot higher, and we looked particularly deadly from set-pieces which, in a season where we are struggling to score goals, could be crucial.
In the 48th minute James Ollis was slipped through, forcing a crisp stop from the keeper, a flurry of corners then followed but the Dorchester defence dealt with them expertly.
For the amount Frome had the ball in the attacking third during this period, not enough problems were caused, with the hosts then delivering a sucker punch, through Buse, who struck an effort in the 62nd minute from distance, it should have been a routine stop for Phillips but it squirmed under neath him, to do all but finish the game off.
A consolation was nearly bagged in the 65th minute when Day nicked the ball ahead the keeper, the touch forced him wide, but he managed to curl over the keeper before a Dorchester head kept it out, off the line.
It went from bad to worse late on as a poor corner led to a counter for the hosts, with Heal the last man, pulling their attacker back, receiving a fair straight red card, a mistake from the former Chippenham man, but one I’m sure he’ll learn from.
The misery continued in the 89th minute, as Luke Roberts battled through finding Robinson, who arrowed one home, compelling a disappointing day in Dorset.
Perhaps fortunately, it’s a quick turn around to the next game and a chance to put things right against Tiverton on Tuesday, it’s a massive game and we’d love to see as many of you there as possible!

Well...that wasn’t much fun was it ! Of course, there’s a lot of negatives when you take a hammering like that, the worst one being that it’s obvious now that we’ll do very well to stay out of that bottom four and that unfortunately we are there on merit – no...we are not unlucky, yesterday the wheels well & truly fell off all over the pitch. I’m going to excuse the likes of , Ethan, who worked his socks off to try and keep us going and also Marcus who was neat and tidy and unlucky to see see a great chip over the keeper headed off the line. Albie also did OK.
Ollie missed a sitter with a header,…
