Frome Town 0 - 1 Hungerford Town

Frome Town fell to a second consecutive one nil defeat, as they lost to Hungerford Town at Badgers Hill.

A second half strike from Jose Marquez secured all three points for the Crusaders, as the Robins struggles in front of goal continued.

The BA11 side started the affair strongly, when Albie Hopkins possessed a good chance in the fourth minute, but his volley went over the bar.

He also found himself one-on-one after a mistake form the defender ten minutes later, but a heavy touch allowed the goalkeeper to claim the ball from him.

Frome continued to apply the pressure, but weren’t really testing Ryan Clarke, that was until just before the break when Ethan Vaughan chipped a cross towards the back post, which Joe O’Loughlin met, but could only head straight at the keeper from point blank range.

A promising first half came to an end; however, Frome came out with energy maintaining attacking intent and they created numerous half chances through Albie Hopkins. However, they struggled to convert their pressure into clear cut chances and as the game wore on, it looked destined for a goalless draw.

That was until the 78th minute, when a ricochet in the box fell perfectly to Jose Marquez, who made no mistake from six yards. The goal deflated the hosts, who struggled to mount a response in the closing stages, resulting in back to back 1-0 defeats at home.

Despite a disappointing result, Frome remain in the fight for survival, with other teams around them also dropping points. Attention now turns to Wednesday’s cup final against Weston Super Mare, where the Robins will be hoping for a much needed boost.

A Super crowd of 650 watched on as another opportunity passes our team by. Two home games this week produces zilch. No goals no points. We have to beat Chertsey next Saturday or the game may well be up. We are perhaps fortunate to still be only two points adrift? Anyone who thought the Wimborne game was dreadful fared little better watching this one. Perhaps we played a little more football but it wasn’t long before the long ball & aerial assault reared its predictable head.

Again, a game of few clear cut chances. Frome’s best fell to Joe O - a far post header on half time - only he knows how he didn’t finish that one. The Robins…

Frome Town 0 Hungerford Town 1

Just after 5:00 pm on Saturday, the referee stood his ground, put his whistle to his lips, and slowly but deliberately signalled the end of the game.  Each passing game now seems to signal yet another defining moment in our season.  Why do referees end games with those three deadly peeps?  The final peep always extends into a long-drawn-out wail of sorrow, in our case, or a signal to punch the air and embrace in a job well done: in their case.   Not only did we all have a distinct feeling of Déjà vu, but it was hard not to feel a sense of the tumble weed rolling across the Badger’s Hill pitch, aided…
