Frome Town 0 - 1 Wimborne Town

Harrison Richards

Frome Town suffered a gruelling defeat to Wimborne Town at Badgers Hill.

A first half effort from Matthew Burrows, which was one of the only real chances in an otherwise mundane affair, was the difference between the two sides.

As tonight was the Robins game in hand, defeat means they have gained no ground on their rivals and it’s potentially a missed opportunity for Danny Greaves.

The BA11 side started on the front foot, dominating a lot of the ball for the first 15 minutes but failed to create any real clear cut chances.

The closest they came to scoring was in the seventh minute when a corner met the head of Matt Wood, but his effort was clawed out by Cameron Plain.

Things slowly started to balance out, but neither side looked to be particularly threatening to one another, that was until a ball over the top from Billy Walker saw Burrows latch onto it and finish over Kyle Phillips to give his side the lead.

From there on the hosts lacked creativity, they were missing a spark all game and even though the visitors didn’t make a lot happen all game, sometimes one chance is all you need.

In the second half Greaves tried everything, the shape was changed numerous times, fresh legs were brought on every 15 minutes, but set pieces were still the only way threat we threatened the keeper all second 45.

In the 76th minute a whipped free-kick caused loud penalty appeals, but they were unsurprisingly waved away by the official, with a shot eventually coming in that deflected wide for a corner.

It was do or die for Frome at the end of the game, with Phillips coming up for a corner in the 95th minute, he appeared to be wrestled down in the box, but once again nothing was given, the story of the Robins evening.

It was certainly a game to forgot, but it’s important we regroup and turn our attentions to Hungerford on Saturday, but with another big crowd behind us like today, we know we can get ourselves back on track.

What a fantastic resource! I had no idea that this topic could help boost certain qualities of mine. I can't wait to explore some more information on this topic. We are into Black Tourmaline Ring and want your suggestions, if any, regarding this. Your small information and feedback will help us a lot.

This is Wimborne's own report on the game - not very flattering of course but there are some truths in there.

Matty Burrows’ first-half goal earned Wimborne a hard-fought three points under relegation threatened Frome’s floodlights. In a game which football purists would not have enjoyed, the Magpies’ brave defenders repelled non-stop aerial assaults from corners, free-kicks and throw-ins to keep their unbeaten run going.

Manager Tim Sills made three changes to his starting XI: Billy Walker in central defence following Harvey Wright’s elbowed eye injury on Saturday; Matt Neale in midfield for the travel-delayed Owen Roundell-Prince; and Jez Bedford for the injured Jack Lovell.

Let me give you some stats: this was Wimborne’s first-ever win at Frome…

Another critical game and this one slips away to a rare recent defeat...but a damaging defeat none the less, make no mistake, as it ups the anti on our next home games against Hungerford & Chertsey. The pressure is unrelenting. For all teams in the drop zone.

The Wimborne game mirrored so many games at The Hill this season. We were competitive, combative, seldom out of the game but didn’t have quite enough quality to turn events around.

We huffed and puffed and gave everything and more … but it wasn’t enough – we fell short once more in front of goal.

Our football is direct - long ball’s from the back into the channels or flanks for our forwards…
