Frome Town were undone by a resilient Sholing side at Badgers Hill, suffering just their second defeat since the start of December.
While the result marked a setback, it’s still evident to see the Robins’ progression since their away defeat to Marlow, and the BA11 side have still won 17 points out of the last 27 available, a record that would be more than good enough to keep them up.

Today things didn’t click on the pitch, potentially down to the heavy nature of it, but regardless the Boatmen got to grips with things quicker, helping them earn a valuable three points in Somerset.
And the BA11 side have still won 17 points out of the last 27 available, a record that would be more than good enough to keep the Robins up.
Danny Greaves made three changes to the side that came away from Poole with three points, Joe O’Loughlin returned to left wing-back in place of Sam Heal, whilst a double swap up top saw James Ollis and Archie Ferris return to the XI in place of Eliott Dugan and Curtis Hutson.
It was clear to see from the start that both sides were struggling to get to grips with the bobbly nature of the pitch, but perhaps Sholing adapted quickest and had their first big chance in the tenth minute, following a counterattack, Romoluwa Akinola chipped a ball into Michael Folivi, but he didn’t connect with his effort properly and Phillips made a simple stop.
The hosts then had their first big chance of the game, after Rex Mannings pinched the ball in his attacking third, he slipped Ollis through, who’s left footed shot went a whisker wide of the left-hand post.
The remainder of the half was a dull affair, and it looked certain the score would be level at the break, but Folivi had different ideas after receiving an intricate ball from Reece Wylie, he made no mistake slotting past Phillips from seven yards out.
The second 45 mirrored the first half, Frome had chances but failed to take them, including in the 54th minute when following a corner, the ball fell to Ferris but he fired over from five yards out.
A goal there would have changed the game, instead the away side doubled their lead, after a break down the right hand-side, Benny Read pulled back for Akinola, who found the back of the net.
A double change up top including Elliot Dugan and Curtis Hutson replacing Ollis and Ferris didn’t change Frome’s fortunes as they continued to struggle to create anything clear cut.
A potential penalty was waved away by the referee in the 83rd minute, after Dugan was dragged to the ground in the box, the following corner then saw the ball drop in the area but once again, no one was able to scramble it home.
Sholing then all but secured the victory in the 96th minute, following an error, Jake Hesketh ran through and sent Phillips the wrong way.
Next up is our rescheduled away trip to Taunton Town on Tuesday, it’s a Somerset derby and we’ll need as many of you there as possible, to ensure we return home with some points.

The Robins came back down to earth with a bump!
Sholing looked very lively right from the start settling immediately and playing some nice football on a pitch that played better than expected. No moans from the Sholing coach!
They just about deserved their late first half lead. It was more of the same in the second half with them always looking dangerous on the break.
It wasn’t that the Robins didn’t make chances - they did and came close several times – two efforts being cleared almost off the line and several half chances squandered. But is was all rather scrambled, hectic and forced. Frome’s lack of a cultured play maker was obvious in comparison to Sholing’s midfield, who…
