Frome Town vs. Bristol Manor Farm: Preview

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, previews the our date with destiny as the Robins go into the final day of the season still with a shot at the title.

Just when we thought it was all over, the title race took a tantalising twist on Tuesday with Tavistock's stunning stoppage time win over Wimborne.

That setback still leaves the Magpies in pole position but the pressure on them has been cranked up several notches as they must now win their final fixture on Saturday at Melksham to be certain of lifting the crown. Anything less, and the door is ajar for Frome.

Top Two

                             Pld        Pts       GD

Wimborne          35         76        +32

FROME                35         74        +32

Of course the Robins themselves have to be victorious at home to an in-form Bristol Manor Farm on the same day to be in with a sniff of the silverware but they have absolutely nothing to lose and it's amazing what a bit of unwelcome anxiety can do to the best of teams.

Manor Farm too, have plenty to play for. A fabulous run since early February of eight wins from nine has brought them right into the play-off mix and, despite their win on last night, they may need a result of their own to be sure of a spot.

The reverse fixture at The Creek, back on a bitter night in January, was a robust affair with Frome coming from behind to snatch the spoils 2-1 thanks to a thumping 90th minute winner from Will Taylor.

Boosted by a decent following of the Farmy Army, there will be yet another bumper crowd inside The Hill come Saturday and if it is to be the play-offs for The Robins, they will be at home to one of Mousehole, Manor Farm (again!) or Larkhall next Wednesday (1st of May) in a one-off semi final.

Danny Greaves' side have a phenomenal record at Badgers Hill which now stretches for more than a year to TWENTY-TWO games unbeaten in the league (of which the last EIGHT have all been won) and one more favourable outcome in the regular campaign will see them achieve what no other Frome Town team has done for well over a century.

Way, way back in 1911, the side skippered by George Poole and including the great Marmaduke Date, went the entire season without losing a single league match at home, a feat never repeated since.

113 years on and all sorts of history could be made. With one eye on events over the border in Melksham, it's going to be an unusual, nail-biting, rollercoaster of an afternoon. Let the drama unfold...

What a cracking stat that is Steve - you get 11/10 for that one! Have you ever come up with a better one ? That's an absolute ripper mate. 'Marmaduke Date indeed! A man for the special occasion?

'The Hill' is going to be absolutely rocking tomorrow and I'd be a little disappointed if we don't get a 1,000 plus tomorrow. The forecast is for a lot of light showers , so the stands are going to be packed, which is always nice to see. BMF is only an hour away and the last time we played BMF - in that play-off game at at the Hill' in 2022 there were well over a 1,00 here then.

Let's hope th…
