Frome Town vs. Gosport Borough: Preview and Ticket Info

Zeb Baker-Smith

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, contemplates an opportunity for a Southern Prem double.

It’s a big Badgers Hill week for the Robins’ Premier Division survival quest with Marlow in town on Saturday but before that, under the lights on Tuesday evening, Gosport Borough will be the visitors.

Danny Greaves’ charges have exactly ONE THIRD of their league campaign remaining and with NINE home fixtures to play and just FIVE away, what happens at The Hill in the next couple of months or so will have a crucial bearing.

That pair of hard-fought draws at play-off hopefuls Taunton and Walton & Hersham was a great response to the setback suffered here against Sholing, but they must improve upon a home record which has yielded just NINE points all season, easily the fewest in the division.

Gosport, currently occupying tenth spot, were originally due on the first Saturday of the year, but a frozen pitch put paid to that, and they’ve struggled for results somewhat since with Saturday’s stoppage time success over Marlow only their SECOND win in NINE. It has to be pointed out, however, most of that run has been against sides pushing for promotion.

The Scarlet Runners have already tasted victory against the Boro this season. Way back in August on the opening day at Privett Park, Curtis Jemmett-Hutson, on debut, surged through late on to score a dramatic opening day winner.

Dodge devotees will be dreaming of a first double of the campaign and a more than decent home record against the south coast side will back up those hopes, but getting over the line in this league is the hardest thing. Even the likes of Merthyr (seven draws in their last ten) are finding it difficult.

Thanks Juppy as always,

Well, the weather is going to be dry, though very cold again - get those gilets, scarves , gloves and under garments on boys & girls. the match should be on at The Hill tomorrow night.

I'm thinking 4 points minimum and 6 points would be outrageously good next week - we'll see?

See you there.
