Frome Town vs. Wimborne Town: Preview and Ticket Info

Zeb Baker-Smith

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, looks into tomorrow's pivotal fixture against the Magpies at Badgers Hill

Every game from here on in feels like a cup final but Tuesday’s crucial crunch clash at home to last season’s Division One South champions, Wimborne Town, has an extra edge to it.

Following Saturday’s round of fixtures, just FOUR points separate EIGHT teams at the foot of the table from Swindon Supermarine in 14th down to Tiverton in 21st and, with this being the Robins’ game in hand on their relegation rivals, they could, with the right result, lift themselves out of the drop zone for the first time since August.

Frome and Wimborne met as recently as just over three weeks ago at New Cuthbury when most of the meaningful action took place in a hectic three-minute second-half spell, culminating in Sam Jackson despatching the only goal for the hosts in a tight contest.

The Scarlet Runners have bounced back from that setback with EIGHT points out of a possible TWELVE, two wins and two draws in four Southern League encounters, conceding just the one goal in the process, a vital run of form at a vital stage of the season.

Just six weeks or so ago, the Magpies found themselves languishing a single point and one place above the relegation line and Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Plymouth Parkway extended an impressive unbeaten streak to eight games (five wins and three draws). This has enabled them to rise rapidly up to eighth place, a recent run bettered only by promotion-chasing Walton & Hersham.

They pipped Frome in an enthralling title race last term and won a close encounter on home soil by the only goal earlier this month. A modicum of revenge on Tuesday night could not come at a better time for the Badgers Hill faithful.

Thank you The Jupster,

Another nerve racking week with two home games against teams in the top ten. We haven't beaten any side in the top ten all season. In fact both are well up in the form guide too - Wimborne are 3rd and Hungerford are 5th.

However, both are in the bottom six for their away form. Wimborne have only Marlow below them.

So, can we finally crack it? They're certainly both decent sides but are better teams on their own pitches and not so clever when travelling. I expect the usual gate of 350 for a midweek game at The Hill and that will increase to the usual 500 on the weekend for Hungerford match.

See you…
