Frome Town vs. Poole Town: Preview and Ticket Info

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, ponders the return of the Dolphins to Badgers Hill .

Having secured their first home point of the season last week against Basingstoke, the

Robins will be looking to go one step further on Saturday when they entertain Poole Town

who are without a win in their last four following a midweek 1-0 loss on their own patch to

Havant and Waterlooville.

Like Frome, the Dolphins have struggled in front of goal. Their total to date of nine Southern

League strikes is the third worst in the division but unlike Frome, that figure is good enough,

aligned with a consistently-disciplined defence, to see them currently lie in eighth spot, just

three points off a play-off berth.

The Dorset outfit competed in the Wessex League (Step 5) as recently as 2011 before a

meteoric rise took them up to National League South level within five years and they’ve

certainly had the better of past Southern League encounters with ourselves.

Season Division Home Away

2013-14 Prem L 1 – 3 L 2 – 4

2014-15 Prem L 0 – 1 L 0 – 7

2015-16 Prem D 0 – 0 L 0 – 5

2018-19 Prem Sth D 1 – 1 L 0 – 3

Grim reading for Dodge devotees but take heart from the most recent meeting here at The

Hill just three years ago. That was an FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round tie in which Frome

came from behind with first half strikes from Kane Simpson, Rex Mannings and Jon Davies

to eventually win a thriller by the odd goal in five.

The latter two of those scorers will unfortunately miss Saturday’s encounter through injury

and another who has fallen victim to the knackered knee jinx is Warren Maidment on the

occasion of his 150th club appearance against Basingstoke last week.

That such a depleted squad competed so well at leaders Gloucester City, who have yet to

drop a point at their Tiger Turf Stadium, is testament to their spirit and determination and

with a decent crowd behind them once more, this highly-demanding new venture at Step

Three could yet get the Badgers Hill lift-off we all crave.
