Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, examines a weighty league bout against the Boatmen.
After the frustration of a SEVENTH postponement of the campaign at Mendip Broadwalk, the Robins look to continue their fine recent run (ONE defeat in the last NINE) on Saturday with a vital home clash against Sholing.
With Poole Town effectively put to bed last week, Danny Greaves’ charges get another opportunity to exact revenge on a side who caused heartache earlier in the season with a last-gasp goal which denied them precious points.
Back in November, Frome, who played for over an hour with ten men, battled against the odds in Southampton and were on the cusp of tremendous result thanks to a long-range wonder strike from Curtis Jemmett-Hutson, but a cruel 95th minute leveller salvaged a draw for the relieved hosts.
The Boatmen were comfortably placed in tenth spot at the time, but they’ve struggled for consistency since. Last Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Tiverton was their first of 2025 and gave them a timely lift to three points above the drop zone.
They may be near the foot of the form table, but immediately prior to their Tiverton triumph, they ended a run of four straight losses with a decent draw at play-off hopefuls Dorchester.

Except for the very first one back in 2009, BA11's encounters against Sholing have always been close and fiercely contested with never more than a single goal in it, and there’s no reason why the latest instalment should be any different.
There’s a lot at stake for both participants and the big carrot for a positive outcome for the Scarlet Runners would be the possibility of reducing the gap between themselves and safety to just two points (with games in hand!). Just a couple of months ago, that would have been unthinkable.
