Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, looks back on an encounter between the sides over a century ago!
Not that anyone alive today will remember but Frome Town and Torquay United were paired together in the FA Cup over a century ago, in a Preliminary Round tie in September 1921.
The Gulls then competed in Division One of the Western League while The Robins were in Division Two and after a five hour train trip to South Devon, they battled their way to a tense 1-1 draw at Plainmoor in front of a crowd of 2,500.
Coleford Athletic refused to reschedule a midweek league encounter at Badgers Hill which meant home games on successive evenings and both were lost, the Cup replay going the way of the visitors 3-1.
More recently, Torquay's Reserve side periodically played Western League football, the last time being the 1992-93 season and in an absolute thriller here at The Hill, Frome fought back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 with goals from Dave Wiltshire, Paul Bernard and an Eion Bailey double (including a penalty spot winner).
The return, at the other end of the scale, produced a dour 1-0 victory for The Gulls, an occasion made more miserable by the supporters' mini bus breaking down, thus curtailing their much-looked-forward to knees-up at the seaside.
What a month! The big one this Saturday in the Trophy and two pivotal home games in the league! Don't forget to book your tickets and pre-order the collector's edition programme in advance!
So, enough of this guessing game - with just a few days to go,how many tickets have we sold thus far for the Torquay game?
