Frome Town vs. Wimborne Town: Preview and Ticket Info

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, looks ahead to our midweek clash with a familiar foe.

Last season’s Division One South champions were due at Badgers Hill a couple of months ago but one of those storms with a name ensured a blank Saturday, adding to a seemingly never-ending string of Tuesday night tussles.

In that time, Danny Greaves’ charges have enjoyed a dramatic change of fortune, including THREE home clean sheets in a row, and, while Wimborne’s recent form hasn’t been disastrous, Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Tiverton leaves them just a single point above the drop zone, albeit with games in hand.

They have not been great travellers this term, losing EIGHT of their TWELVE league fixtures on the road, but they did push Frome hard here last season in an enthralling 2-2 draw.

The return at New Cuthbury, which also ended with honours even, was a more cagey affair with so much at stake, played out in front of a bumper two thousand-plus crowd, the biggest at a Robins away game for many a long year.

Past Robins vs. Magpies encounters in the Southern League:

Season               Division                          Home                  Away

2010-11          One S & W                  W 3 – 1              W 3 - 0

2018-19             Premier South             W 1 – 0               L 2 – 3

2022-23              One South                    W 3 – 0              W 4 – 1

2023-24              One South                    D 2 – 2              D 1 – 1

With the Scarlet Runners three games into a punishingly hectic period of fixtures and three very decent results under their belts, credit must go to the management and backroom staff for ensuring the battle-readiness of the team after that frustrating post-Christmas period of inactivity.

They will need that same steely application to achieve a positive result and a degree of revenge against a side which pipped them to the title last April as Operation ‘Close the Gap’ continues apace.

Thanks for that The Jupster , as Informative as ever. and once again - well done on your excellent book about our stupendous promotion season last year - never to be forgotten.

it's interesting that they have only beaten us once in the last 8 meetings and then only by a single goal at that. Last season, in the 2-2 draw, they looked the best side we faced at The Hill all season and probably won the league on merit. I'll give them that.

The pitch on Saturday made it very difficult to play quick incisive football and the Gloucester coach was quite swingeing about it. when interviewed after the game, even mentioning the slope for good measure! Funny…
