Last night saw our third preseason friendly of the season take place at the Auen Tips Stadium.
Goals from Kane Simpson, James Ollis and Jon Davies saw the Robins pick up a victory but all eyes were all the younger talent involved.
A much changed squad travelled to Hallen for our third pre season friendly with Chris Peck, Matt Smith, Marcus Mapstone, Rob Hobbs, James Carey, Jake Jackson and Rex Mannings all rested. This gave much needed minutes to the remaining squad, and also the opportunity to look at some academy prospects and a couple of trialists.
Dispite the number of changes, we started brightly and opened the scoring through James Ollis who scores his second goal in three games.
Jon Davies scored a delightful goal with a strike from 20 yards which gave the keeper little chance. Kane Simpson also chipped in with Frome's third goal showing good composure to finish from inside the box. Hallen managed to grab a late consolation goal, but we ran out 3-1 victors.
Seth Locke started the match the goal. Seth has progressed through the youth set up, was replaced late on by 16 year old Academy prospect Tom Roberts making his debut. Tom pulling off a fine save in the final minute.
Luke Johnson from our academy made an impressive debut age 17 from the bench for 25 minutes. Luke has had an impressive last few months being involved in and around our first team squad. As well as picking up the Southern League Development team goal of the month for April. Luke was also named our academy player of the year narrowly missing out on the team of the year. Ethan Fielder a developing young centre back has been awarded the honour of our student of the year was selected for the final team of the year.
We thank our excellent hosts, and wish them all the best for the season.
Next up we welcome Southern Premier side Weston Super Mare to Badgers Hill next Friday In a game that should attract another great crowd.
