Say it quietly, but Frome Town are back among the goals following Tuesday’s hard-fought
and entertaining 2-2 draw with Walton and Hersham. Four in the last two is a modest boast
but that’s more than in their previous EIGHT fixtures as they bid to improve on their lowly
league position.
Saturday sees them up against the current masters of finding the net as they travel over The
Bridge to face high-flying Merthyr Town. The Martyrs, currently in third place but with a
couple of games in hand on leading pair Totton and Gloucester, are easily the division’s
leading scorers with thirty-two in eleven, and that having played fewer fixtures than most.
The sides met at Badgers Hill back in August with the season not even a week old and,
although the Robins gave a thoroughly decent account of themselves, Merthyr displayed
that little extra in class when it mattered to win 2-0 with a brace of second half strikes.
They have been quite formidable at their Penydarren Park home this current campaign,
unbeaten and dropping points just the once but they were made to work hard for their 2-1
victory over bottom-of-the-pile Marlow last week with the winner finally arriving in stoppage
time.
Danny Greaves has previously tasted victory there as Frome Town manager; goals from
Ollie Knowles and Harry Baker (a double) securing a fine 3-1 success on their last visit in
August 2018, and there were also away wins (4-3 and 2-1) in the two seasons prior to that.
As well as their points tally and position, the Robins will also be looking to improve their
performance on plastic. They’ve lost all three games this season played on artificial surfaces,
yet remain unbeaten in their other four away fixtures on grass.
Marlow came within a whisker of coming away with a draw from the 3G at Penydarren Park
last week. Could it be plastic fantastic for the Scarlet Runners?

Yes, we've improved by some considerable margin over the last month and great credit to that must go to Greavsie and his coaching staff - they have transformed the side from strugglers into a competitive squad. The players have responded in brilliant fashion. We are not world beaters for sure but now there's a little light at the end of the tunnel?
We weren't good enough to trouble Gloucester recently and this is a similar mountain to climb. Marlow were within a minute or so of getting a draw there recently, so who knows?
Ricardo Rees ( 13) & Kane Simpson (7) already have 20 goals between them so the threat is very obvious.
