We are delighted to announce the signing of Ross Staley, a skilful left-sided player who can operate anywhere along the flank or centrally. He came up through the academy system at Bristol Rovers, earning his first professional contract in 2012.
After his release, he went on to join our new divisional rivals Yate Town in the summer of 2013. Ross then signed for National League North side Gloucester City in February 2015, before transferring to Hereford in January 2016 There he featured regularly in the side that were Midland Football League Champions and losing FA Vase finalists prior to joining Taunton in October 2016.
Ross played a pivotal role in Taunton's rise up the pyramid including winning this division of the league as well as the Southern Premier, making over 100 appearances and contributing with over 25 goals. During his six-year stay at Taunton, Ross took time out from English football to play and coach in Australia in January 2018, featuring for Rockingham City and then Eastern Lions. He recently returned to the UK following another spell abroad in New Zealand, where he played for Manurewa AFC.
Upon putting pen to paper, Ross said: "I’m very excited to have signed! After speaking to Danny the decision was an easy one and I’m looking forward to a great season!"
Danny Greaves, meanwhile, is excited for his newest recruit ahead of the season opener on 12th August: "I am delighted to add Ross into the group. We have been searching for 12 months for a player with the qualities and attributes which Ross will bring, not to mention his vast experience, albeit still at a very good age. He has won leagues and knows what it takes in terms of strong mentality and character to be consistent over a 40+ game season."
Welcome to BA11 Ross!
Don't miss the chance to see Ross, our other new recruits and the rest of the Robins' squad in action on the opening day of the Southern League season when we face Cribbs FC at Badger's Hill! Season tickets are still on offer!
