Welcome to Wonder Woman Wednesdays – A Focus on Frome Town Women FC!

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

Welcome to Wonder Woman Wednesday – a focus on Frome Town Women FC!

Over the coming weeks through to the New Year, we will be shining a spotlight on FTW, our phenomenal Women’s Team. We will be sharing information about the team, our sponsors and our charity partners, culminating in the now annual FTW advent calendar which focuses on our players.

Who are we?!

FTW are a small community-based team who play in the South West Regional Women's Football League (Eastern Division). Off the pitch, we are run by a small handful of volunteers - Tim Vine, (who has been involved with the Club for the past 10 years, previously as a coach and more recently as our amazing Chairman – and reluctant linesman!) Ben Bolland (Manager and Head Coach) Tom Bond (Coaching Assistant) Ryan Atkins (Match Day Assistant) Tony Underhill (Fundraising) and Tara Tomley (Comms, Sponsorship and Welfare) – who do everything that’s involved in running a football team, from sorting out match details, finding funding and sponsors, providing welfare, communicating and reporting on matches all the way through to coaching the football team. The lion’s share of the behind-the-scenes load is taken by FTW (award winning!) Manager and Coach, Ben Bolland. Ben works tirelessly to support Female Football and in dual roles heading up Women and Girls Football at FTW and Frome Town United, has developed a strong pathway for Frome female football from the age of 6 through to adult. We are extremely proud of what Ben has achieved, indeed our three latest signings have come from the FTU under 16 team.

FTW were one of the first women’s teams to be formed in the region and today consist of a team of incredible Women who mainly live and work in the Frome area. More details on our players will be featured throughout December as they deserve individual mentions and applause!

Last season ended really well for FTW when we narrowly came third in the Division (just being pipped to second place at the last match of the season), reaching the County Cup semi-final and with a lot of positives to work on. It’s fair to say that we’ve not had the start to this season that we wanted, which is due to a set of unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances including illness (COVID hitting the team) injury and players being away. Having said all that, we’ve recently made some exciting signings from FTU as well as some more experienced players and know that the team is really capable, putting in some strong early performances against Ridgeway and Poole Town Ladies. With plenty of games to come, the team will be giving everything they can to compete in what is proving to be a very tough Division this season. We have a strong tradition of Women’s football here in Frome and we are confident that we will keep building on that this season.
