Westbury United vs. Frome Town: Preview and Ticket Info

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, contemplates the challenge of our noisy Wiltshire neighbours.

It's derby night on Friday as Frome Town make the short journey along the A3098 to lock horns once more with local rivals Westbury United.

Last week's emphatic mauling of Malvern saw them become the first Division One South side this season to rack-up fifty league goals.

That, coupled with Wimborne and Cribbs dropping points did their title hopes no harm at all but if they are to maintain a challenge, they must improve their record on the road which has brought four losses from the last five trips.

If the league table was based solely on away results, The Robins would occupy tenth place, a position not helped by conceding 22 times in ten games.

The majority of their run-in (eight fixtures out of thirteen) is away from the fortress of Badgers Hill so it is crucial that the travel sickness is cured.

Westbury, who currently lie sixteenth, tasted defeat at The Hill back in December just days after that historic Torquay Trophy tie as Frome did well to pick themselves up to win 3-1 but they had to wait until stoppage time to clinch it.

The White Horse Men last won on New Year's Day (2-0 at Melksham) and have since drawn two and lost two in the league along with a penalty shoot-out exit at Chippenham in their County Shield.

Last season's encounter at Meadow Lane attracted a bumper crowd of close on a thousand and a galling single goal defeat for The Robins acted as a catalyst for that late revival which took them to within touching distance of the play-offs.

The many followers who will make the short trip on Friday will be hoping a more positive outcome will banish the away day blues and cement the reds as credible title contenders.
