Womens: Frome 1-1 Trowbridge

Frome scorer: Harris

POM: Mist

Frome Town Women looked to get back to winning ways with a league visit from neighbours Trowbridge Town in their 1st league game in 4 weeks. Before the game kicked off a minutes silence was observed by all for all our service personnel past and present.

The 1st 15 minutes of the opening half started with neither team taking a hold of the game or really creating any real pressure on either goal. Both teams continued to probe looking to find a way in behind two strong looking defences but neither succeeded until the fresh legs of Mist in the middle of the park ghosted around 3 players and put Isaacson through only to spurn Frome’s best chance of the half. With Justins team talk looming the ref blew up for half time with what could only be called a drab 1st half performance.

The 2nd half started with Frome more on the front foot looking to gain control of the game and 60 minutes in Frome’s dominance came good when Harris collected the ball just inside Trowbridge’s box and unleashed a fierce dipping strike to leave the visitors keeper no chance.

The next 25 minutes saw Frome come close to doubling their lead with Bristow shooting just wide,a lung bursting box to box run from the youthful Perkins ending with her shooting into the keepers arms and a McGregor pile driver rebounding off the post. The constant pressure down the right produced Christmas a sharp chance but her volleyed effort cleared the bar. T

rowbridge still posed a threat and picked up a contentious free kick on 85 minutes 30 yards out when Underhill rose well to head out a floated ball in and Trowbridge’s striker colliding with her and landed awkwardly. The resulting free kick saw a perfect strike into the "top bins" which saw Trowbridge react as if it was the winner, but with 5 minutes plus added to play Frome pushed forward but were unable to grab a winner.

On the balance of chances Frome must feel 2 points dropped but for Trowbridge a point gained. The supporters player of the game went to debutant Freya Mist who came on midway through the 1st half showing good touches, skill, great energy and tackled anything that moved.

Onto next week a stern test awaits Frome’s women with an away trip to Forest Green Rovers.
