This week Frome Town Women welcomed Sarah Dyke (Member of Parliament for Somerton and Frome) and Lisa Merryweather (Leader of the Frome Town Council) to Badgers Hill - and introducing very limited and special offer on our first team kit!!!
The plan was that ahead of the game between FTW and Bath City Women on Sunday 29 October, FTW would welcome MP Sarah Dyke and Leader of Frome Town Council Lisa Merryweather and other members of the Community Benefit Scheme (CBS) to Badgers Hill. Sadly, as with many of the best plans, the extreme weather on Saturday had other ideas and put our pitch out of use and the game did not go ahead. Sarah and Lisa decided to brave the weather and we are grateful that most of the visit went ahead, nevertheless.
Our visitors met with Manger Ben, Chairman Tim and players Keira-Leigh Underhill and Laura Didymus, to discuss how interest in female football has grown over the past few years. In Frome, under Ben’s leadership, positive collaboration between the Women’s Team and Frome Town United (our junior club) has created a clear pathway for female football from aged 6 years through to adult. This means that the reality of being female footballer in Frome continues to move forward – moving from ‘traditional’ outdated views that encourage sexism and inequality, through to being recognised as role models in the community.
Manager Ben says, meeting Sarah and Lisa was a fantastic opportunity for our management team and players to meet two incredible, community minded female role models. They invited our players to share their own experiences both on and off the pitch and generously shared some of their own perspectives, both personal and more widely including the vision of the future for the ground and how football fits into the community space.
Sarah and Lisa also urged the players and staff to continue their excellent transformative work, and for them to help encourage more community involvement in the CBS which will shape the future of football in Frome, and the role it can play in the local community, with the pivotal CBS AGM only a matter of weeks away.
The FTCBS Annual General Meeting is on the 30 November. If you would like further information about the FTCBS, the AGM or are interested in joining the CBS:https://badgershillnews.org/7-2/about-us/
